Builder of church organs, whose company is still restoring organs today.
The harp
An elegant angel stands over the grave of Frederic Jardine and his wife Annie. She’s gazing up to heaven, a harp at her feet. The harp is a reminder of Frederic’s lifelong connection to music.
His family were skilled church organ builders. As a teenager, Frederic emigrated to America with his uncle to build organs there. Later, he returned to England, initially working in partnership with James Kirkland, and then running his own organ works in Manchester.
British organ builders
Frederic’s company built and repaired organs of all types and sizes from their purpose-built factory in Old Trafford, including instruments for cathedrals, hospitals, prisons and cinemas.
Jardine’s were the first British organ builders to design and build an organ specifically for the cinema, to accompany silent films. Jardine Church Organs is still restoring pipe organs today.
