The Royal Parks in photos - March
We look back at March through some of our favourite photos, past and present.
March is always a special month in London's Royal Parks, full of new life and welcome colour after winter. This year was no different. The care and attention of the nursery and gardening teams resulted in beautiful spring displays, while our work on managing habitats means the parks continue to be some of the best places to see wildlife in the city.

Around the parks
On Wednesday, 12 March, we welcomed nine Chelsea Pensioners from the Royal Hospital Chelsea to help sow seeds in Brompton Cemetery as part of the continued Battlefields to Butterflies project.
The Chelsea Pensioners were joined by Royal Parks staff and Friends of Brompton Cemetery volunteers as they helped prepare the memorial wildflower meadow, which will be great for pollinators, in front of the Chelsea Pensioners Monument.

The Household Cavalry, who are stationed in barracks right outside Hyde Park, were out for a daily exercise on a sunny spring morning. You can often see them and their horses trotting through the park, come rain or shine.
Hyde Park has a long history of horse riding that's still maintained today, with two specialist horse riding arenas (or manèges) and bridleways including Rotten Row.

The Irish Guards, and the four other King’s Guards, drew crowds with a parade for St Patrick's Day.
Our team at St. James's Park and The Green Park look after The Mall and the flower beds in front of Buckingham Palace, so it's always a point of pride to get the backdrops to these ceremonial events looking as good as they can be.

A look back in time
Three-year-old Angela and her sister Linda, aged 5, looking at the crocuses which had come out for spring in Hyde Park, in March 1957. Crocuses and snowdrops are often among the first signs that spring is on the way.

A group of schoolchildren enjoying a springtime picnic in The Regent's Park, in March 1912. Over 100 years later, the park unsurprisingly remains a popular destination for a picnic - and you can still hire a deckchair too.
